FAQs

Q - How to develop interpersonal relationships?
A - Despite the fact that nothing defines you more than the people you build relationships with, the only way to develop effective relationships is through practice. Meet as many people as possible!!

When you get to meet them, use your knowledge of inter-personal skills. Make every attempt to identify their thrust behaviourial style and then actively seek to create common ground between you.

People are more easily attracted to people with whom they have something in common. You can create this “reality” through your actions, words and general behaviour. Once you have identified the thrust behaviour of your colleague, mirror it. Give the other person what they require from an inter-personal situation in order to allow them to feel comfortable.

Bottom line is, you want to place their relationship needs on an equal footing to yours.

After the initial contact has been established and it has proved to be fruitful, or it shows the potential for being a beneficial relationship, the follow-up is critical. Everybody loves being acknowledged and recognised. Now the ball is in your court so to speak. You need to make the effort to stay in touch, to nurture the relationship.
