FAQs

Q - What does self motivation mean?
A - This really is the only form of motivation. It is the ability of a person to move themselves from a point of being into a resourceful state-of-mind. People are all, at a very basic level, motivated by only one question. They strive to experience pleasure and to avoid pain. This is the basic decision every person makes when faced with a decision. They ask themselves whether, by doing what they’re planning, they will experience pleasure or pain. People instinctively want to avoid pain, so they choose to take the opposite course of action.

Only as people mature are they capable of applying the concept of delayed gratification. By doing this they understand that in order to experience pleasure at a later stage, they may have to endure a level of discomfort now.

This leads to the second aspect of self-motivation. People will always strive to be comfortable and hence they will adapt their behaviour and their attitude to allow them to feel comfortable in any given set of circumstances. Discomfort is therefore often a catalyst to self motivation.
