10 Key Needs of Teams

10 Key Needs

"That working together to achieve a common goal produces higher achievement and greater productivity than does working alone is so well confirmed by so much research that it stands as one of the strongest principles of social and organizational psychology."

The challenges of operating a High Performing team seem insurmountable. Often the process is either over-complicated or over-simplified.

Creating a team that sticks together and has the latitude to function optimally under a variety of circumstances rests not only on hard work, but also on applying basic principles.

Elements

The programme examines the relationship between the following 10 Key Needs:

  • Common Goals
  • Leadership
  • Interaction and Involvement of all members
  • Maintenance of Individual Self-esteem
  • Open Communication
  • Power within the group to make decisions
  • Attention to Process and Content
  • Mutual Trust
  • Respect for differences
  • Constructive Conflict resolution

Once the importance of the 10 Key Needs have been addressed, the team is given the opportunity to experiment with the implementation of some of the Key Needs during experiential exercises. This allows the team to determine the correct mix and practical application of the Key Needs.

This programme can be used in conjunction with the 10 Key Needs of Teams Climate Study. Using the Climate Study provides the team, in conjunction with the facilitator, the benefits of an objective assessment tool to determine where the team lacks skills, and also the level of improvement the team has made over a period of time. Further it allows for the implementation of effective follow-up programmes.
